How Much Should I Charge For Drawings? [3 Considerations]

How Much Should I Charge For Drawings?

Almost any business in the 21st century needs an online presence to expand their business.

However, just having a website isn’t good enough anymore. People need more information and they need it fast.

Graphics, drawings, illustrations and images can help attract a customer and give them a clear understanding of your product or service.

In this post, we’ll going to explain how much should you charge for drawings?

Let’s get started!

How Much Should I Charge For Drawings?

If you’re good and fast and can impress your employer, $10 or $25 an hour is a good start.

If you’re free-lancing and/or you want to provide a higher-quality service, then $100 an hour or more is more realistic.

If you’re really, really good, then you might be able to command $250 or more an hour.

1.      Expertise

If you’re an artist, designer or illustrator, you may be often asked to create a drawing and give it to a client for free. Or not. It’s the other way around: you should charge for your drawings based on your expertise and experience. What is the right price for a drawing?

This is a question that we asked ourselves at the beginning of our career and we still ask ourselves now. Some artists charge as much as $300 for a sketch, some as low as $5.

The first question you should ask yourself is: how much do you want to charge? You want to set a price that you’re comfortable with and that your clients are comfortable with as well. We usually ask for a price that actually justifies the designer’s expertise.

So always make sure you charge based on your experience level.

2.      See Freelancing Sites To Get An Idea

When you are just starting out you don’t really know what to charge for your drawings. Pricing your services is one of the toughest things you will ever have to do.

But here’s how you can do this easily…

There are many websites that you can use to research freelancer prices. If you use sites like Upwork, Freelancer, Toptal, Guru, Fiverr, etc. you should check out the prices other freelance designers are charging for similar projects.

3.      How Complex Your Service Is?

How complex can you design your drawings? The answer to this question can also impact on how much you should charge for your drawings.

When you are first starting out, it is often better to keep your drawing simple. This way you can get the most experience possible. If you are starting out you are likely to find clients are not willing to pay you that much for your drawings.

You are also likely to have more time on your hands. This is why it is better to work on simple drawings, as this will give you more time to work on other projects.
