How Do I Make My Own App Icons [2 Simple Steps]

How Do I Make My Own App Icons

Creating your own app icons give us a good feeling of joy. Most of the icon packs of Android, iOS and Windows (desktop) give us many options but they are most often paid version and sometimes they don’t cover the apps that we actually use.

Most of the apps which are quite popular are in the database of these icon packs but if the app that you’re using is rare and you know that not many people use it, chances are that app will not be available in your icon pack list.

And the only option is to either request the developer of that software to add your favorite applications in it or to make it on your own.

So in this post, we’ll cover how you can make your own custom app icons step by step. Let’s begin!

In order to create custom icons fast and efficiently you can hire us or if you’re happy to take the heavy load on yourself, let’s continue…

Step 1: Download Resources

Before we even begin creating our own app icons we first need download apps that are necessary for us to create them in the first place.

There are a couple of tools that you need to install:

1.      Icon Creator

There are many apps available for you to download but the most popular option is Phonto which can be downloaded on both the iOS and Android devices.

You can also use Canva for both the desktop and mobile devices as Canva also provides a web-based interface which is quite easy to use especially if you want to create custom icons for desktop PCs like MAC or Windows.

2.      Background Remover

Since many of the icons will have a background image you need to remove it so your app icon will look good and consistent with the rest of your mobile or desktop theme.

Just search on the app store “image background remover” and you’ll see a lot of options to choose from. Download the one with highest ratings and good reviews.

Select the image and with very minimal effort you can than download the edited version of your icon without any background in it.

3.      Planning

This step is crucial as in this step you’ll be identifying which apps you’ll be targeting and changing their icons and which icons you’ll be replacing them with.

For example, let’s say you want to revamp your camera icon, these are the steps you’ll need to take:

Download a custom icon from Google. Type “camera icon png”. Include PNG in your search as this will give you transparent background images in the first place. But sometimes you might not get transparent background images that’s why we covered the background remover before if in case you couldn’t find one.

Step 2: Replacing Old Icons With The New Ones

For iOS you’ll need:
